Affordable Natural Skin Care – My top 10!

“Natural skin care? Oh, you’re going to be paying a fortune!” That was the general consensus when I would mention that I’m throwing out all my old products and replacing them with natural skin care. It really annoyed me because when I did look online, I’ll admit that for the most part, it was dreadfully overpriced. Not to be discouraged, I started hunting online only to be reminded of Faithful to Nature. I used to use them at the beginning of 2015 for their oils and vitamins; I hadn’t really seen their skin care products.

I was beyond thrilled to see how affordable some of their natural products were, but honestly, I was skeptical on whether they would only perform to the level of their price point. Trying out products can be risky, as you can’t really predict how your skin will react, but I was feeling like a confident guinea pig and brought R600 (about $42 US) worth of product. R600 got me a day moisturizer, an exfoliator, Argan Oil, eye cream, night cream and a mask. If you’ve ever wandered up to a Clinique counter or even bought the L’Oreal range, you wouldn’t be getting anywhere close to that amount of skin care for that price. Let alone natural cruelty-free skin care!

Two weeks in, I could already see the difference. I wanted more. I purchased another mask, two cleansers, and a toner. After using these products for nearly two months, I’m hooked for life. I’ve received so many compliments on how healthy and flawless my skin looks, and I’m not even spending a great amount of cash on it! I assumed the change to natural products would break the bank, but I just hadn’t found the right brands.

These are my Natural Skin Care favourites from Faithful to Nature:

Brand: Simply Bee

Product: Cleansing Cream

Price: R92

Status: Vegetarian

It does say it’s for all skin types, but personally, I like using it when my skin is feeling sensitive as it is a VERY gentle cleanser. It does contain almond oil, so for those with a nut allergy… it’s a no go!

natural skin care

Brand: Earthsap

Product: Tea Tree Face Wash

Price: R56

Status: Vegan

I LOVE this stuff. I’m not sure if it’s the smell or just how it creates this burst of freshness on my face, but it’s definitely my daily cleanser. It’s got coconut extract, calendula, and tea tree oil in it and it’s also super gentle on the skin.

natural skin care

Brand: The Victorian Garden

Product: Toning Freshener

Price: R79

Status: Vegan

My skin is dry, and for all those who suffer from the same, this toner will change your life. I’ve gone through two bottles of this product and it’s not because they don’t give you enough product, but because I use it to freshen up all day long. This one has rose and chamomile in it and is made especially for dry skin.

natural skin care

Brand: Tree of Life

Product: Pure Organic Argan Oil

Price: R135

Status: Vegan

If I could pick one natural skin care product that I couldn’t live without, it would be Argan Oil. This is my third bottle and I use it every single day without fail; I also use it in my hair and on my hands. Couple of drops on your face before your night cream and you’re good to go. Personally, it’s like coconut oil on steroids. Buy this product – right now!

natural skin care

Brand: The Victorian Garden

Product: Apricot and Walnut Exfoliating Facial Polish

Price: R99

Status: Vegan

Exfoliators and I have never loved one another, I’ve always felt like they don’t ‘scrub’ my face well enough and they’re a total waste of money. This guy has my heart! It’s exactly what it states to be, a polish; your face is like a baby’s bottom after exfoliating. It feels like my pores have been emptied, maybe TMI, but it’s true!

natural skin care

Brand: Earth Song

Product: Organic Eye Tissue Oil

Price: R116

Status: Vegan

This is another product that I will force you to buy. It has chamomile and lavender oils in it and it promises to be an ‘ultra rehydrating and refining’ oil, and it really is. Not only does it work like an absolute machine, but the 60 ml is more product than you will need in a lifetime. I’ve used it religiously for over a month and I’ve hardly made a dent in the bottle. It also has my favourite packaging from all these products with a pump and thick glass, it just feels expensive even if it’s super affordable.

natural skin care

Brand: The Victorian Garden

Product: Rose and Chamomile Day Cream

Price: R115

Status: Vegetarian

At first, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this day cream as I found it didn’t spread evenly over my skin. Then I paired it with the toning spray and whilst my face is still damp, I applied the day cream and it spread like a dream. This product is also for dry skin and my skin has never felt more hydrated.

natural skin care

Brand: The Victorian Garden

Product: Rosehip and Cape Aloe Replenishing Night Cream

Price: R115

Status: Vegetarian

Get this night cream just for the smell, it’s part of their African Indigenous Collection and it reminds me of being on safari out in the wilderness breathing in the night air. Super hydrating and you still feel it on your skin when you wake up the next day, it really plumps out my skin.

natural skin care

Brand: Bee Natural

Product: 100% Natural Living Clay Anti-Wrinkle Face Mask

Price: R93

Status: Vegetarian

This stuff gets TIGHT! And I love it because it does what it says it’s going to do. I used this mask two hours before heading out for the night and I got so many compliments on the youthfulness of my skin. It’s chemical, perfume, and preservative free, and it’s excellent for sensitive skin.

natural skin care

Brand: The Victorian Garden

Product: Marula and Mint Firming Clay Face Masque

Price: R99

Status: Vegetarian

I’ve definitely used this one more just because I prefer the smell. If you do not like the smell of mint, stay away from this product because it embodies the term minty freshness! This is also a great tightening mask and your skin is left feeling refreshed and smooth.
